Chip Pan Fires

Whilst driving this week I have heard a number of radio advert features about the dangers of chip pan fires, and the risk of fires starting caused by people returning home drunk and chucking on chip pans.

It struck me as strange as I had thought that chip pan fires would be on the decline, as I did not think chip pans were too common nowadays.

A quick search of google proves I was wrong, and they remain one of the (if not the) most common cause of house fires and casualties.

No real reason for starting this thread other than to share.

I thought chip pans went out in the 80's .
When i was a kid the chip pan was on seven days a week , now i am lucky if its chips once a week thanks to being married and being told to eat healthy blah blah

The North East is a bastion of unhealthy diet, so chip pan fires are still common around here despite many education campaigns.

Mate of mine lost his brother in one.

I no longer have a chip pan. My pressure cooker now serves as a chip pan and I scoop out the chips with a slotted spoon. I'm no longer a 'get home from the boozer and fry chips' person. But when I do chips the scene looks like this:

There's no danger of a chip pan fire as there's too much action to allow me to fall asleep on the job.

It must have been a big pan.

I assumed everyone had now moved on to electric friers,

@vernon pickled onions with a fry up, you sir are just wrong.

@Noodley posted a similar comment when I displayed the same pictures last December.

My response is still the same - I'm partial to pickled onions. I don't do salt, vinegar and sauces with my fry ups nor do I add baked beans.
