Crockers, I regard you as a brother. I will lay on pies, fry ups and curries for you. Bring your own table-sized trencher.

I think chip pans are an age thing, personally I've never owned one, and we never had one when I was a kid, but they are still around.
We bought a flat a few years back and had to re-plaster one wall of the kitchen as a decade of chip pan spray had seeped so deep into the wall that no amount of paint would stop the grease seeping back out

We had a chip pan fire a few days before Christmas once, when I was a kid. Many a happy hour was spent up a ladder trying to scrub the ceiling clean (wee took it in 'shifts', and repainted before Christmas too).
Chez Fnaar, we don#t have a chip pan... never have, in 23 yrs together.

Whilst driving this week I have heard a number of radio advert features about the dangers of chip pan fires, and the risk of fires starting caused by people returning home drunk and chucking on chip pans.

It struck me as strange as I had thought that chip pan fires would be on the decline, as I did not think chip pans were too common nowadays.

A quick search of google proves I was wrong, and they remain one of the (if not the) most common cause of house fires and casualties.

No real reason for starting this thread other than to share.

Actually, it says:
Chip pans the cause of one-tenth of house fires in Scotland.
It makes no mention of any
deaths.

It is also from July 2012 and further states:
A Scottish Government spokesman said: "The number of house fires related to chip or fat pan fires has reduced by more than two-thirds since 2001/02, which we believe indicates an improving awareness of the danger of fire in our homes.

All of which puts a slightly different light on the post.

This in no way discounts the fact that there are still far too many fires caused by chip or hot food pans.

I bought a chip pan the first year I got my first crop of potatoes from my allotment . I hit a lot of them digging them up so they are the first to get cooked / turned into chips .
Then I got the chickens and fresh eggs and real chips is a lovely treat . You cant beat home cooked chips !
I quite like cooking so if I cant be bothered to cook when ive had a few beers then I wouldn't be cooking chips . I just walk down to Hanworth kebab house , the finest kebabs in all the land .
