Took My car it to a insurance approved windscreen specialist.... they would nt touch it unless the chip/crack was either
the size of a five pence piece or slightly bigger ....just going off there Quote
My mrs works for a insurance company ... she checked it to see if it rang true ... got the same answer

Total rubbish, sorry I have been involved with screen repair for over 26 years and whoever gave you that information is badly informed.

Autoass do not like to repair over a £ coin size, why, well they sell windscreens that is why.

90% of all screen repairs carried out in the UK are extremely poor quality. Performed by poorly trained people who have no desire to do a proper job.

All the majors know I feel this way as I have had many meetings with them and industry assessors over the years.

Is it not free on your insurance to get it fixed professionally and it doesn't affect your no claims?

Does not affect your no claims, but it will be logged as a claim and can or will effect your premiums, ask the BBC as they did a programme about it.

It Does get over the problem that I have a small chip Crack on the screen ... and the windsscreen company will not repair
Until its the size of a 5 pence piece ! ...

OP, try and find a company locally that repairs only, I supply people in a lot of places with tools, consumables and training, unfortunately the closest to you is Elgin I think.

Why repair only? because a replacement company will make between 4 and 12 times as much selling you a screen as they will repairing it.

After any repair is carried out you should see no more than what looks like a dried raindrop, any more and the job was done poorly.

Why would I want to ask the BBC? I don't care!
I was just talking from my experience of the situation. My premiums have never gone up, infact my insurance is cheaper now than it was 8 years ago. And I have had a windscreen repair 3 times during that period.
I don't care wether or not the op buys a repair kit, calls Autoglass, buys a new screen or kicks it out and drives without.
Some people here are so f#####g pedantic about everything.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
A windscreen claim won't effect your no claims bonus,, and your premium will not Increase as a result either. Roadrider48 is correct. Windscreen claims are seperate from your normal ncd, that's why there is a seperate excess.

But how do you know? Nobody knows what their insurance premium is, there isn't a set figure, which is why a statement such as a 60% no claims bonus is completely meaningless. If your insurance went down maybe it didn't drop as much as it would have without the claim, there's no way of telling.

Thats a different ball game and not what we are talking about in this thread is it. what i am saying is that a windscreen claim is seperate from your normal insurande claims.

But still may effect the premium, whatever they tell you. The days when a screen cost pocket money prices are gone, they are now a stressed part of the car's structure and often contain heating elements and rain sensors.

With all due respect welsh dragon that is different to the information we are getting in the trade from the insurers direct.

RR I quoted the BBC because they were concerned enough and knew enough to do a programm about it.

As for paying and claiming back, how I wish it was that easy. As an industry we have been talking to trading standards and the monopolies commission for a long time concerning the grip the major 3 have with the insurers.

Smoking Joe you are correct, but will struggle to explain that when the TV and adverts says different.WSR and maybe free at point of sale, it may not be the same as your premiums can rise although not increase for up to 5 years after your claim.

Do not forget CUE have your information.
