We've one for our 3 moggies, they took a while to learn how to use it but they've all mastered it eventually.

Available here for example - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003EGIM3O?*Version*=1&*entries*=0
The Girl has one of those for her cats. I was disappointed to find that (a) it couldn't be controlled from a smart phone and (b) you can't just assign an IPv6 address to the moggy and get it to read that. (insert joke about Cat5 cable here)

Here for rides.
Three cats are competing in the cat Olympic swimming race. There’s an English cat named “one two three”, a German cat named “ein zwei drei”, and a French cat named “un deux trois”. The cats all swim one length of the paddling pool. The English cat finished first, the German cat finished second, but the French cat disappeared without trace.

Un deux trois quatre cinq.

although our cats were chipped,.as decreed by the domestic authorities, but to be honest I'm not sure I see.the point. if cat does sadly come to grief then chip does no good , and adult cats at least don't tend to get lost, unless they choose to get new lodgings for their own reasons .

It does sometimes work. The first one my son got [known as Bigpuss since he's overly large] disappeared one night. He was found 4 miles away 5 months later breaking into houses and stealing their animals' food. The chip meant we were contacted as we'd registered him missing.

We had a cat turn up, hanging around the garden and eating our cats food. Took him to the vets and found out his owner had gone into a old folks home and he had been turned out. We now have an extra cat.

I think the same happened to my BigCat (better name then BigPuss imho ) he never had a microchip, but I did put a flyer about, nobody claimed him.

Off topic; where did you get it from and how much please?

We're looking at a cat flap, if only to save one of them waking me at 5.30am and the other leaving puddles, but haven't found one. And given the number of cats in the area a chip-reading cat flap seems sensible.
Hang on, I'll go and look... It's a Sure Flap one.... it was £70 [Edit: it's exactly the same as Batoo's Amazon one]. We bought it from one of the chain Pet Warehouse stores on the Team Valley Retail Park in Gateshead.

DC, if the door your catflap is to be fitted to has steps outside your cat may struggle at first to get it's head and shoulders far enough into the opening to activate the chip reader.... we just used a box made of plywood to sit on the top step until Alfie got the hang of it.... he happily comes and goes all day now... a couple of outsider cats initially tried to follow him in but gave up in disgust!

I think he keeps removing the chip in retaliation for being named Gary. Cats are sensitive creatures, you know .
