glass beer bottles 3
water 2 bottles full on a duel carriage way the car must have been doing 70+mph, they missed thank god.
lost count of the amount of water/ pop ect emptied out of car window as they pass.
snow balls lost count.
but the worst was hit on the back of the head with a rolled up news paper from a passing vehicle, i was doing about 10mph up hill they 30+ i did semi black out, lady in a car behind did a emergence stop which saved me from death or serious injury.
i have seen riders slapped on the bum several times, one pushed off on a roundabout by a passenger.
if people are just throwing chips think your self well off.

A couple of riders have been killed out my way, thanks to being pushed off by passengers. It's one of the big reasons I've chosen to have a rear view camera.

Just had 2 things thrown at me, a can of drink which didn't have any meaningful impact due to me palming it away. Worse than that was earlier I had a cigarette butt thrown at me & it hit me on my chest while I was doing over 30mph deep on the drops, one flinch latter & I'm on the deck. I still have a scar from that but I'm thankful it hit my chest - it was only millimetres away from hitting me in the face!

You were on a bike, they were in a car. If you'd gone down infront of a copper and on video.... They may have been done for littering (if you were lucky!)

Second coming up to a pich point under a bridge, car pushes me into the curb, it then slows ahead I tell them to learn to drive and look where there going, I go ahead and as they drive past me the female passenger throws a packet of chips (like from mcdonalds) at me but misses, could have at least aimed better.

if I were you I would be to decide how I'd want to ride and make strong mental effort to ride that way.

Either choose to ignore all the abuse and close passes and enjoy the ride (thus deflecting all confrontation and not aggravating a situation) or get stuck straight in at the lights and take them to the f**king cleaners.

Throwing insults (no matter how justified) will nearly always end in you losing, A cyclist is neither big, fast, dangerous or threatening enough to make any impact, so we are very easy targets.

if you are going to retaliate, pick your moment...or let it pass

I've been fairly fortunate on the "target" front, although I have had stones and snowballs thrown at me (all missed).

The least potentially injurious, but most annoying was when some ****er spat at me from the road side.
Jam on the brakes, unclip, drop the bike to the ground and then discover that cycling shoes & cleats are not designed for giving chase on foot

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I used to have stuff thrown at me fairly regularly when i was into running fast jogging ranging from bottles to spit .

Luckily on the bike the only thing i have had thrown at me are insults and a few guys who were close to throwing punches untill i called their bluff and stood my ground( all mouth and no trouser type)

You should have caught up with them and asked for the sauce sachet as they obviously thought you were in need of food

A few months ago i was cycling along a "safe" B road .... going round a gentle left hand turn with a row of hedges on my left.

Several cars approaching from the opposite direction, nothing untowards .... until a porsche appeared on my side of the road
right in front of me!!!! Overtaking all five vehicles.

He did not know what to do, and to be honest i'd been thrashing hell out of my legs up to that point and probably had far too much
testosterone fuzzing my mind .... meaning i didn't dive out the way as quick as i ought to.

Not a good thing to do .... long story short, the porsche tried to fit where a camper van was and the two vehicles ended up with extensive
side scraping / missing bits.

Police were involved, porsche driver was hauled off due to being under the influence of drugs and the nice people in the camper van
supplied tea and biscuits while the smell faded from my cycling pants!!!

We all panick in situations like those. Fortunately I have not had an incident as bad as that but I am certain one day it will happen.

I had a PCSO jump out in front of me a few weeks back waving two fingers at me shouting its 20mph as the speed sign lit up, i assume the fingers were to emphasis the fact not some form of insult i nearly ran him over anyway and just gave him a nutter look and carried on. :-)

Not a very nice ride today, come to a roundabout car to my left decides to pull out in front of me had to slam my brakes in otherwise would have gone into the side if the car, am I invisible?, no apology , wearing a white top white helmet I must be!.

Why are these people allowed to breed?, getting sick of the abuse for doing nothing wrong, but Im not going to stop my cycling!!!, I dont give in that easily!.

Didnt get it on camera unluckily as still waiting for memory card to arrive.

Hopefully they'll earn themselves a Darwin Award before they're able to, or at the very least before they have too many children.

How's this for a person who should have their license revoked?

In another state from the one that I live in, we had a nurse who hit an off duty cop who was out riding with two other off duty cops (at 50MPH) she ran using the logic of "I didn't hit him that hard." After she got home she and her husband watched the news and learned that the cop that she'd hit died at the scene (well at the time that she hit him she didn't know he was a cop). Instead of turning herself in to the police she waits until she can consult with a lawyer.

I've been shot. Couple of years ago, three young guys in a blue Clio on a country road, three miles from home. Funny thing was, they were coming in the opposite direction and fired out of a side window, hitting me on the thigh. Damn good shot. Luckily, it was just a soft air pistol and only caused a very small bruise. Unfortunately i've no camera and didnt have time to note the reg. Pity as i have access to a database containing the registered addresses for vehicles here.......

^^ This!!!

I have had a few snowballs thrown at me and whilst the kids thought it was really funny - I was on a dual carriageway and there was a bus following me really close!

I managed to stay on but if I had wobbled off the bus would NOT have been able to avoid riding over me!

I feel your pain OP - it's shocking that people think its okay to do this sort of thing!!!

I'm glad that things worked out and you didn't loose control and weren't hit by the bus.

In fairness to the kids I can understand that behaviour.
After all, it's funny to hit someone with a snowball, and it's a challenge "let's see who can hit the moving target". Also, what kid even thinks about consequences of their actions?
Obviously I'm not agreeing with their actions, and glad nothing too serious happened, but I can see why they might find it funny.

Adults in cars on the other hand just confuses me. Don't get me wrong, I've been 'stuck' behind a cyclist and been annoyed / impatient, but I've never once thought of driving my car into them, or lobbing something at them.

Some people are just odd.

To quote our parents, "it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt." That's the problem they don't think about the consequences their actions. In a situation like this they need to have a serious talk with either their victim, their parents or the local LEO, or all three. So that they learn and realize seriousness of their actions.

Their age doesn't excuse their actions, especially when they're doing something in situation where it can cause serious injury or death.

This is also a prime example of why children need to be supervised and not allowed to roam/run free.

Adults who engage in this kind of behavior need to be arrested, charged, and taken straight to jail, do NOT pass go, do NOT collect $200.00.

smear the chips over the windscreen?

I've had, what I think, was WD40 sprayed at me as I was overtaken I've also been hit over the head with a large plastic bottle of cider or similar which broke my helmet - they were walking.

I've also had a taxi come alongside me to my left ( I was in the right hand lane to turn right) asking me what I'm doing and do I have a death wish as he moves into the right hand lane, forcing me into oncoming traffic.

It sounds like the taxi driver didn't know the law, or how to share the road.

I had a close call with a cab several years ago, when I called the cab company the dispatcher didn't get that even though the driver didn't hit or hurt me. That the crux of the problem is that his driver engaged in both an illegal and unsafe behavior. It doesn't matter that he "got" away with something one time. What about the next time that driver passes too close to a cyclist?
