Chorley - Bramhall Route

Hi,
I am hoping to commute using bike & train but once a week doing the commute to work on my bike only! Is there anyway I can tell google maps (or other sites???) to avoid bike routes and tow paths as they don't seem to be that well maintained (happy to be told otherwise!) Would love 'road quality' cycle routes if they can be requested on mapping sites
