I don't really mind Ashton's swallow dives. It's his risk if he drops the pill and looks like an idiot/blows the game/England lose. It all adds to the spectacle.

It's the crappy music that gets played once a try or penalty is scored that makes me nauseous. Especially at Wasp's ground. Urrrrrrghhh!

What's the difference between Union and League? I know I could use Google but I thought I'd ask CC's own rugby expert. It's just a shame Aperitif is not online at the moment.

You.re not missing a lot Lee

They are both games where people run about and often kick the ball pointlessly.

There are endless scrums and linouts to get the ball back into play in Union.
League has largey got rid of that thankfully.

(Like a throwin in football - except a scrum can take up to 10 minutes)

If you want something even vaguely watchable - go for league - at least they've been profesional for over a hundred years, and have laws that have changed to make it viewable - and don't have eternal scrums

If you want public school boys fannying around - Union is for you (although you'll find the best players in union (like Ashton, who his thread is about - is a Rugby League player  )

Even better - become a fan of a proper sport

I'd recommend football / cycling

"the lines he runs show how good his rugby mind is"

He learnt that playing rugby league.

Wigan must be kicking themselves for offering him such a derisory contract before he switched codes.

Ashton must be on cloud nine with the profile he now has.

He would never have been known nationally or internationally if he had stayed in British RL.

Exactly

I preferred RU 20 years ago, when it was a blokey game with a mix of people. (eg fat, slow people in the front row)

I give you.... Martin Castrogiovanni. And this is an old photograph. While Martin might be the perfect date, I'm not sure he'd turn up on time....

Sorry Dell, but I fail to see what a 29 year old Argentinian who has played (rather averagely) for Italy has to do with anything?

You quotef me referring to RU in the amateur years 20 years ago, and yet you post a contemporary professional, playing for money for a country he wasn't even born in?? I'm a bit puzzled.

Psst... He's had a pretty successful career with Leicester incase you haven't noticed.

You'll also find if you delve into the world of RU, not everyone went to public school

It's not about age though surely? Started playing when I was 7, dad played all his life, most of my mates were met through rugby, it's a decent sport with decent ethics. Some like other sports, fine by me. It's all good.

I'm surprised the guy was not sent off for deliberate handball - after all there are football markings on the pitch so WTF is going on?

Exactly. Thank you Dayvo. darkstarlet, please note the experienced viewpoint - and don't get so wound up and personal. It's a forum. No-one is moaning - just proffering sagacious advice to the ether...

Not adverse to a bit of show-boating himself.

Look here:

Remember it well - Cardiff. Most of South Leicester have had cracks in their walls from a similar try he scored.
