Mate at work complained to the Craft Beer Company Pub (on Leather Lane in EC1) about the price of their lager (£6/£7 a pint) after we popped in there one lunch-time and was foolish enough to send the landowner's reply to us. Basically the landlord said "we're a classy pub for classy beer lovers - if you want to get ****ed on cheap lager go to Tesco."

Hi,

Sorry your experience disappointed.

Basically we are not like Tesco where own brand is cheap and to be sold in bulk, our 'Craft' Lager is brewed exclusively for us in Denmark by the worlds most respected and famous craft brewer, Mikkeller. It is made in small batches exclusively for us and is sold no where else in the world.... It is in my opinion and the opinion of many people the finest lager in the world which is why we put our name to it.

We do have another Lager 'Shoreditch Helles" which is £3.95 a pint and is a very nice easy drinking session lager...

We are not selling Fosters for £4.50 or Guinness for £6.... we are actually selling beers you will not find anywhere else in the world, beers if the highest quality and these are quite expensive.... however this is not the case with all our beers, as you said, our Ales are most £3.40, our Award winning cider is £3.90 and our 'shoreditch Helles Lager' is £3.95, all prices which stand comparison with local pubs selling 'bog standard' products.

I hope this answers your questions and encourages you back,

Regards

Martin
Mikkeller's good stuff, price seems reasonable to me for what it is. I've paid more for their bottled beer.

Costing £125,000 for four people, or £31,250 per person, the menu for what will be the world’s most expensive Christmas dinner menu has been devised by London chef Ben Spalding, who has completed residencies at restaurants including The Fat Duck in Bray, Gordon Ramsay’s Royal Hospital Road and Per Se in New York.

Among the ingredients being used are a Yubari King melon costing £2,500, in addition the the £2,600 Densuke watermelon; 150-year-old balsamic vinegar costing £1,030; whole white Alba truffle costing £3,500; and gold leaf coming in at £6,000. To drink, a £37,000 bottle of Piper Heidsieck 1907 champagne will be served in diamond-studded flutes; diners who prefer spirits can sip from a £2,000 stock of DIVA vodka, described as a “diamond-sand-filtered vodka” and served in a bottle that is filled with Swarovski crystals.

The focal point of the meal will be the traditional Christmas turkey, served this time with Dodine turkey and with Wagyu beef fillet and heart. It will be wrapped in gold leaf and sprinkled with Akbari pistachios. For dessert, the quartet will conclude their £125,000 meal with whipped Kopi Luwak, a coffee bean, and Densuke watermelon.

I need to know what a £2500 melon tastes like!!!

At a rough guess....

Melon?

That lot would be utterly wasted on me. I don't have a fine palate, melon is melon, it's quite nice. I could maybe just about distinguish a honeydew from a cantaloupe etc by taste, but more likely by outward appearance. I can tell watermelon form any other by taste, because it doesn't taste of much.

And all the gold stuff, is that the edible gold foil? Presumably that tastes of nothing (and sets your teeth on edge...)
