Pick from:
  1. Wear whatever you like. People aren't usually as snobby as you'd think, and if they are, who cares?
  2. It's Christmas, and a chance to dress up in your finest gear. Don't slob about in jeans, get something smart on, it's a special occasion.
  3. Chinos.
Well a brother in law of mine went for Sunday lunch at the golf club and was sent home to change because he turned up in jeans. It obviously still irks because he mentions it every now and again despite it happening 10+ years ago!

I'd just buy a dark pair of trousers that could be dragged out every time you needed something that wasn't jeans, and get a soft casual shirt to go with it.

My default dress code is tracksuit bottoms , jeans for going out and 1 suit which i had to have the trousers taken in as they dont sell off the peg small enough but with enough leg room .

Mr Summerdays lives in his jeans, but has a couple of other options from suit (very rarely worn), and dark trousers. We've a Christmas meal to go to tonight, so I expect hell drag out one of the other pairs of trousers.

Me I like tonight's do as it's just make a bit of effort but no one would bat an eyelid if you did turn up in jeans as long as it was a clean pair, so I'll wear a nice dress, and spend ages pondering which one (not posh just ones I like). But I hate going to really posh do's and having to feel I must wear a particular type of outfit.

Christmas do for us tonight so it'll be whatever I can cycle in,not what someone might want me to wear. It certainly won't be smart.
When we lived closer to tonight's do we used to cycle there, and I had a couple of strategies, nice trousers or certain skirts that I could cycle in.... But now it's 10 miles away, I'm not doing that after a night of partying!

When I was younger I would never go anywhere that told you how to dress, the clubs with brain dead bouncers were terrible, they would let all the thugs in because they passed the dismal dress code, while turning away much more sensible reasonable people because of jeans no tie etc.

They do 501's in other colours than blue denim.

I had to buy a new suit and all the matching accompaniments for my step-son's wedding a few years ago at no inconsiderable cost to me. Now we've been invited to his on the 24th Dec. (the BIG day here in Norway) and have to dress smartly, FFS.

Don't know why I bother. Bloody hate Christmas for all the irrelevant fuss, hassle and unnecessary cost.

Don't then.

Here in Chez SpokeyDokey we long ago decided that we would never, ever do anything we didn't want to again. And we don't.

The Giles Brandreth school of style, that should work.

Exactly! :okay:
