When I was at UEA, there were a few houses in Friends Road who 'competed' to see who could have the 'best' lights on their house.

I had some red fairy lights permanently wound round the rear legs of my pannier rack but they went kaput a few weeks ago.

I usually put some on the bike in mid December for about a week but they become an annoyance quite quickly.

Every December I add some battery operated Christmas lights to my commuting bike to get myself some festive cheer (not the flashy kind of lights obviously) and just as a silly thing to do around the holiday. Usually this means that little kids wave at me, commuters will shout 'Merry Christmas', some will take a picture, you get the idea.

Question is should I add them to my first road bike? It is my only bike now and I would be putting them in the wheels, on the frame and on me. I'd like to continue this trend but I'm hesitant this year due to the quality of a road bike compared to a commuter bike which I was happy to tape things to and fiddle with. Good idea, bad idea, let me know what you think (and apologies for talking about Christmas in September

Do yourself a favour and get some mains powered lights. They are cheaper to run and you won't look a tit beyond the end of your drive/path.

I won't charge for this advice.

The SmallestCub and I won the 'best bike tat' award (a red stetson, with assorted festive additions) one year for our tandem decorated with three sets of pound shop lights and quite a lot of tinsel. Oh, and a fibre optic mini tree on the rack...

I struggle into the wind with a 4 foot Christmas tree bolted to the pannier rack.
The kids like it though .

Probably best .it causes havok on the club run when the real tree starts shedding its needles.
