I was pretty much the social secretary for Halfords, and our xmas do was always a good night, I'm going to miss it this year.
The dealership I'm at now have booked a meal at a fairly posh (for Carlisle ;)) restaurant and will foot the bill - which means pretty much everyone will go. I'm looking forward to it as I think you see a very different side of your colleagues when you socialise with them - but then I'm fortunate to work with people I enjoy spending time with. well, not all of them, but the odd one can be ignored.
The downside is that it's well out of town and the taxi will be extortionate.

Fantails ?

I’m going out with some lovely folks I’ve met who are Providers to my workplace.
Developed a great relationship with them over time  Chuffed they thought to invite me.
Not bothering with the “team” do though.
Went round taking names but couldn’t tell us where or when we were going
Can’t “break bread” with this lot so count me out :hello:
Have a great time though .

That is pretty much why we stopped going to our company do.
It was a laugh back when it was just us lot in the pub. We're all pretty good friends where I work and we do go out socially, I'm just not into the enforced fun kind of situation.

It was quite funny one year when the hotel served undercooked turkey and managed to give a load of us food poisoning - I was working as a food microbiologist at the time...

I have turned down all four invites so far. I spend enough time with my colleagues and not enough at home or with my local friends.

Funny you say that but I was invited by my cycling work colleagues to go to Belgium with them on a cycling thingy but I declined as usual and feel quite guilty.

It only costs £10 each, this year only £5.00 each, company pays the rest. Some have decided to do their own thing which is fair enough, you can't expect everyone to get on.

Works Christmas events are in my opinion best avoided.

I initially gave in to pressure to go to one , then made excuses to not go.
For years I would deliberately change shifts so I was working when my lot were going out.

Eventually I just started saying no thanks.

Well this thread had really knackered my plans up............thanks a lot @User .
I was just about to post an invite to EVERY member of CC to come to my house for......free drinks, free food (steaks & veggie choices), accommodation in 4 or 5 star hotels and taxis provided.
Shan't bother now

[QUOTE 5040184, member: 43827"]Christmas works parties will not be the same any more without the drunken flirting, sexual innuendo and inappropriate touching. And the men are even worse!

Do you work in Westminster?

My SO got Xmas invites. She sent me an email with the dates, but only the dates, not the month.

So I got confused and wondered if this was for November, December and January. No, it was just for November. She's very sociable.

This makes me think: you are what you do. If you have a job that involves much talking, you'll pry be sociable. If not, you won't. I work with a bunch of effing nerds and all they rabbit in about is techie stuff. No way we are gonna socialize with anyone!

Ok stay away from The Merchant pub,in Leeds on Tuesday 12th between 11-30 and 16-00.As 20 retired old Postal workers will be filling their bellies with fine food and quaffing a few sherberts,it might get noisy.Fancy dress is optional.

Ah, 11.30 - 16.00, postie's drinking hours. I used to be legless by 4 and tucked up in bed by 6.
