For about 10 years I've suffered a problem that reoccurs evey couple of months with a small muscle at the top of my thigh. It's not a major muscle but it's somehow involved with balancing the thigh muscles; I stand up and suddenly the thigh gives way and I have to catch myself. There is pain at the very top of the thigh more or less in the crease. Once the injury has reasserted itself it takes a couple of weeks before I realise it hasn't bothered me for a while. Luckily it doesn't interfere with cycling or skiing and only a little with walking if I'm careless. I go to a physio for massage and this really helps; he thinks it's the tensor fascia lata muscle, which is torn. I think I may have torn it years ago jumping up from my desk when cold.

Is there any permanent surgical cure for a torn muscle?
