There’s some astonishing exchanges about this on the Clarion facebook page. One chap is even asserting that “Removing the socialism reference from the Clarion constitution actively encourages fascists to join Clarion cycle rides. You may be happy with that, but I am not.”
As one of the responses observes, if the retention in the constitution of a political position provokes such division then perhaps it is indeed best not to retain it.
But I agree, it is a bit of a shame.

I was under the impression that the Clarion organisation had already moved away from there political heritage , and that is why there is now a separate Clarion group that still keeps a connection to its socialist roots. There must be Clarion members on the Forum to give there views.

Do you mean the 1895 club, founded in 2006 ?

We want to make it clear to everyone who reads this that the National Clarion Cycling Club (this one, running since 1895) is not the same as another organisation which calls itself National Clarion Cycling Club 1895 (which was founded in 2006). You may find this other club extolling the origins of the original club, using its logos and name, as well as using the suffices of ‘North Lancs Union’ and more recently ‘Southern Union’, but it is not this club.

About 18 months ago. Not really 'that' into audax- prefer off road largely. Good people though.

I am a member of a local Clarion club, I presume that makes me a member of the National Clarion. I didn’t know anything about the vote though until it was already happening, ie over the weekend. I wasn’t aware even that the AGM was happening.

I remember occasionally bumping into Clarion members on youth hostelling trips back in the 70's. Decent enough bunch of people, although the odd one could be a bit intense.

As mentioned upthread, a heritage to be proud of.
