Mr Celine

Discordian
It has just been pointed out that more people have signed the petition to reinstate Clarkson than signed the petition to end Female Genital Mutilation.

Brilliant, just feckin brilliant.

Well, Clarkson is a complete fanny so there is some connection between the two petitions.

The trouble with the oaf is that his humour is almost always tendentious, often at the expense of some eeny-miny-minority or foreigner. Either that or it's along the I'm above the law lines. There's another thread bobbing up and down at the moment about a driver defending an 120mph in a 70mph and an 80mph in a 40mph charge of dangerous driving. Speed isn't dangerous, you see. I wonder whether he's a Top Gear watcher.

Didn't Top Gear used to be a rather boring show about reviewing cars?. I seem to recall it was, until Clarkson turned it into a laddish tabloid-esque farce with dumb stunts. Frankly, I thought they'd stopped all that when Hammond nearly bought the farm. Clarkson is an utter ******* in my opinion and past his sell by date. He's certainly made his opinions known about cycling and cyclists over the years, so I'm (hopefully) going to enjoy his demise:okay:. I do like May & Hammond though. Hammond is apparently a keen cyclist and I loved the one where he beat Clarkson to London City airport on a road bike. James May does some interesting sciencey-engineering stuff as well.
Interestingly (and I only know this as a TG devotee:blush:) Clarkson explained in this current series how safe speed limits on motorways should be raised to 115mph, the logic was on the lines of; the 70mph limit was derived in the 60s(? )from what a typical driver in a typical car could stop within the length of a football field - as of now the modern car with modern brakes could stop with the same distance from 115mph. So yep, according to TG 115mph is entirely safe. (and btw that is not my view)
Yes, stopping a 2 tonne Bentley, and a couple of other cars, in under the Highway Code stopping distance was used, if I remember correctly.

I've done huge amounts of work-motorway driving over the years and I've seen some awful accidents where the car ends up like a drinks can peeled with a can opener. TG thinking that 115mph is safe is just dumb.

A nice quote I found:

The thing to remember about Clarkson if you live in the UK and he annoys you (and this is very like the things you need to know about how they vote in elections/'Sunday Roasts' and fried breakfasts/calling anywhere further away than 2km from a Tesco 'the countryside'): they like him. They think he's great. It's not him: it's you.

My final thoughts are that he is contriving a way out and onto more riches.

All the controversy seems to have happened since he sold his shares in 2012. Like any good mercenary he is terminally fouling his turf for self marketing gain.
