You have done this before on several occasions, and on at least one of them I have offered you a suggestion. Rather than lob the link in with no explanation and request that people don't speculate as to your thinking about it, why don't you give some explanation?
I don't understand why you think I have to have an opinion on any particular subject. It isn't obligatory is it? I don't feel an overwhelming urge to get all indignant about a whole lot of things. I only post articles that have a view on the topic under debate for general interest. Disagree with them if you wish. One of the advantages of sitting on the fence is that you have a view in both directions.

Pure conjecture......

Lets assume that the allegations are true that Clarkson is cynically and corruptly trying to get sacked by the BBC so he can take up employment elsewhere with a big fat payoff (as opposed to resigning without a big fat payoff)

Perhaps reinstating him would be the way forward, then to investigate whether this was actually the case.

Then if found to be trying to fiddle he can be sacked without the payoff, gets his way an we save the License Payer's money

You only have to read his books or watch some of his non-TG tv documentaries on WW2 themes or engineering to recognise a very lively, intelligent and knowledgeable man. Unfortunately he's also cynical and lazy, and has long-since twigged that there's immense fame to be had and money to be made by pandering to the worst instincts of many of his countrymen. In his knee-jerk contempt for the po-faced, he's become indifferent to the toxic effect this has on the domestic culture, or the damage such distortions wreak on our image overseas.

I think we Brits are, for the most part, a decent and liberal-minded people, who believe in courtesy and fair play and take others as we find them, and whose basic philosophy could perhaps be best summarised as live and let live. I don't like the thought that I am tarred the world over with the Clarkson brush, and that TG watchers around the world will be predisposed to suppose me an arrogant, racist homophobe. The thought that I help finance it just rubs salt in the wound.

I watched the one on the Victoria Cross and it was a good programme with just the right level of appropriate cynicism, fact and theatre

Does not in any way excuse his behaviours though

(PS as in cynicism I mean reporting the case the pilot who was nominated for a VC for saving his crew whilst seriously wounded, a magnificent feat of bravery and superb flying. It was turned down because he had survived and therefore there was an element of "self preservation" making the award of a VC inappropriate)

Savile made his money from djing and presenting. There's no evidence he encouraged others to join in his perversions. JC makes his money from promoting yobbish behaviour on the roads- speeding, using a mobile, drink driving. So, it's not only possible, it's extremely probably that JC has tangentially been complicit in more deaths than Savile.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

If he's sacked for gross misconduct he's unlikely to get a fat payoff.

I suspect that actually he's self-employed, so it's unlikely his contract extends beyond the end of the current series. And given the BBC have had to cancel filming and broadcast they'll probably sue him (successfully) for the resulting losses.

I have to say that your flesh-and-blood counterpart doesn't seem short of opinions.

he's off to Sky. His contract is up, and Uncle Rupert has tapped him on the shoulder. The rest, including the so-called punch, is marketing. And a four-way scrap between Zee, Al-Jazeerah, Sky and the BBC for audience share in Nigeria some time in 2020. Who knows, by that time there might be some black people in the TG audience.

That there are 840,000 idiots ready to play a part in this is well..............embarrassing.

I find it encouraging DZ. Only 840,000 idiots out of the 6 million* that watch it every week.

*none round ours.

The article in the Independent, if true, is much worse than anyone knew.

Tantrum cos he couldn't get his dinner. Swearing, racist bigotry and assault.

Why don't you send me a list of topics and I'll see if I can come up with some opinions thay meet with your general approval?
Why should you tailor your opinions to my approval? A frank exchange of differing opinions, expressed reasonably politely and coherently (or even incoherently after a few pints) is the way that the world moves on.

The 2 of you should meet up, yell a bit at each other then throw a punch or two :boxing:
Then we can all give our opinions on the results here on CC
