The fact that neither May nor Hammond have said that his behaviour was wrong and unacceptable, and instead have been cracking jokes about it, makes them not much better than him, so I hope they all pee off.

In ANY job in the UK, if you strike a colleague you will be dismissed.

Just because Clarkson is famous he should not be exempt from this. The right-wing fan boys will just have to get over it.
Interesting the comparison with footballers...fans will forgive anything as long as they perform.
Are we seeing some shifting of morality for the good?

Lets make it even simpler

1. Nip down to the pub.. have a few pints
2. Go back home
3. Find that the wife has not cooked me a steak and it is not on the table waiting for me
4. Launch into a tirade of verbal abuse and thump the wife

The fact that 1 million people think that this behaviour is acceptable is one of the more worrying aspects of this incident

They should be ashamed of themselves.

I agree - sadly this 'celebrity' feting culture we live in contains individuals who will forgive their hero's and heroine's absolutely anything. The huge ego Clarkson knows this and has played his silly media hyping games too many times now and has got his just desserts.

The man is an insensitive, oafish bore but will no doubt be shoving his snout back into the overly full trough, that underpins the media gravy train, in the not too distant future.

They have no shame - if this is anything to go by:
This man ranted expletives in a hotel for twenty minutes. That's twenty minutes. Because he couldn't have a steak.

Then he subjected an innocent colleague to a thirty second assault.

And people are defending the man??
Yes, and attacking the victim, who, let's not forget didn't report the incident and is not a catering manager anyway. But he's to blame for stealing JC from their eyes.

People moan it's getting boring and stale, but viewing figures suggest otherwise.
I was starting to think the same, but then looking through a typical days EPG have come to realise it was an hour that actually stands out as being well produced amongst an awful lot of dross. Must be why I spend too much time on CC.

Does he still get paid every time BBC 3 airs a repeat?

Do not think I am defending him, far from it his lack of self control is disgusting. However I was just pointing out that any BBC wages paid to him may have been a good investment, of course only time will tell if somebody can come along and make them as much again.

There was a programme on a couple of months ago showing some very cringe worthy (sexist, homophobic etc.) clips from '70's TV. I wonder if Top Gear will feature in a similar show in 40 years time.
As for this specific incident; From the report it sounds like someone stepped in and stopped Clarkson from harming the producer even more, and as has been said his actions would result in instant dismissal in any other work place. I wonder how many of the people supporting him would be happy for someone they worked with to assault them to keep their job.

There are lots of things that are contemptible about it, from physically assaulting someone that you're reasonably sure won't defend themselves because you're "the talent" to the threats to have the producer sacked, which had the poor bloke sat in A&E thinking he'd lost his job into the bargain, according to the inquiry report.

But, hey, LOL BANTS, he's a LEDGE.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
"what ought to have been a small incident sorted out easily turned into something big"

Classic lame defence. Have heard it dozens of times in disciplinary situations. What might the easy sorting out have looked like I wonder? "Shut up or you'll get yours?"

Because, dear James, you see, verbally assaulting someone at work isn't a small incident, and having done that, then to go on and physically assault someone at work is a HUGE incident.
It's not impossible to read May's comment as referring to the small incident of not getting a hot meal - especially since refers to Clarkson as a knob.

it is now easy to realise that if the BBC had not paid all that cash for Clarksons production company, it would have been the production company and not the BBC who would have had to deal with all the Clarkson personal events.

As said at the start, it was that 2012 worthless purchase that likely led to his. After that Argentina and other stunts failed to get him the sack, just maybe he felt a punch was needed to move onto that future path of bidding riches.

The BBC might as well sell that now semi worthless company back to him for a couple of million.
