I can't tell you anything about that particular bike, but I have a low-end Claud Butler hybrid and for the money (£200) it seems okay. Certainly it's carried me to and from work every day for the last year. The only troubles I've had with have been a broken rear axle (I'm guessing all those speed humps at 18mph began to take their toll) and the gear cable wearing through a couple of times.

The components on mine are low-end (Suntour chainset, bottom-of-the-range Shimano gears and cassette), but they're certainly not made of cheese and do the job.

A very bog standard ally road frame with sora kit, standard entry level stuff, the carbon forks are a nice touch at that price point

No they are not the most glamorous of brands but if you are dipping a toe in the water then I dont think it matters

What I will say is try and have a look in Decathlon if you have one nearby by, its almost september and the sales will be on soon and they do some very very good kit, Decathlon seem to have a very neutral brand image that attracts no derision from the bike snobs, they make everything from cheap town bikes to top of the line TDF carbon
