I always keep the oily rags in a metal can with secure lid. Do not want any spontaneous or otherwise combustion burning the shed down.
Can could explode, if the vapours inside are created quicker than they can escape!!
 
It brings a tear to me eye so it does.

Sorry I mentioned we had a can, but when I was a lad, it was the one we used to get the ground glass and gravel in for breakfast, along with drainhole tea....and we used the can for 10 years without washing it, water much too dear. Just hit it now and again wi' an old clog (when we had 'em).
