I didn't use such a scientific approach. Like with the rest of my bike it was lots of minor tweaks over a period of several weeks until it felt right. Then everything remains locked in place until it wears out and needs to be replaced.

A podiatrist... ??

I have custom made insoles that I wear in most of my shoes - similar to a footbed.
Yes, a foot specialist ... presumably one of those that custom designed your current footbeds? Or at least someone with training in foot anatomy and biomechanics

Yeah, it was my podiatrist that had my shoe inserts made.

Excuse me, I understand you - I was wondering why you'd asked/why it mattered?

You are new to SPD SL's, so my question was as to whether you had discussed the inserts while cycling with the podiatrist- presumably you are getting some discomfort given your first post

My foot discomfort when clipped has been alleviated with footbeds, and when wearing orthotics while cycling on flat pedals too. Until I read it on here, I personally didn't know that wonky feet could affect comfort, knees etc while cycling as well as walking

But if all is good, all good

Well, I got my cleats and I put them on in a way that looked right. 200 miles later and I'd had no issues.

Then, being a clever clogs, I decided to try a different float and now I can't get comfortable with them (or the previous float!) - very frustrating.

The discomfort is extra annoying as it seems I got them spot on in the first place!!

My turbo arrived today. I've already got a goniometer and I've also got a fair bit of "light" reading on cleat and saddle positions, so tonight's the night.......

I'll be using my sharpie and getting this sorted once and for all!

Shimano 105 5800 Carbon SPD-SL Pedals and Shimano R078 SPD-SL shoes with standard Shimano SPD SL Cleats.

I have all the floats, but I use the 2* the most.
