In the market for some clipless MTB shoes for commuting. Been looking and trying on quite a few pairs and I am finding a lot of the MTB shoes, like the Shimano M089 for example, have very thin tongues, to the point that the shoes around the tongue area is digging into my foot when it is at certain angles. I do have pretty skinny feet and ankles, which probably doesn't help. Would I be better suited to looking at shoes that are styled more like trainers (still clipless), so they have more generously padded tongues? Or are there are MTB shoes that have adequately padded tongues that I need ?

I did look at the Giro Rumble VR and they fit and seemed okay, but the soles seemed a bit on the thin side and might wear and expose the cleats. Any owners can confirm this?

Thanks.
