Close Encounter in Swansea Bay

Has anybody else experienced an incident similar to this?

I was cycling home last night in the dark along Swansea Bay Cycle Path. Keeping to the left as most of us do, ahead I sight a flashing red light and pedal reflectors moving up and down. The strange thing was that they seemed to be closing very quickly!

I slow down and keep to the left when out of the darkness into my beam appears another cyclist heading towards me!

He (or she) alters course to port and passes close down my starboard side.
(Swerves to the left and passes me very close to my right)

Do these people belong to a special club?

Or am I missing something?

Maybe it's a South Wales thing???

Here in Cardiff I've seen a few times somone on a bike pellting it the wrong way along a cycle lane (against the oncoming traffic and potential cyclists using the lane in the right direction). There is a cycle lane on the other side of the road but it's a shared path, which I guess isn't all too obvious unless you're looking for it. Not sure how they think that a lane only a few feet wide can be used both ways without conflict. Luckily I've been going the same way (on the left side of the road) everytime I've seen this, so haven't had to deal with a head on confrontation

It was not so much that he or she was on the right hand side of the path, but the fact he had a red flashing light on the front of his jacket and nothing on the back of his jacket. Giving me the impression that he was cycling in the same direction that I was

Used to see red flashers at the front in London, and blue ones. Not noticed them lately, so perhaps the fashion has migrated to the provinces.

Saw this in London on Tuesday and one bloke even had one red and one white light on the front and nothing on the rear.

Must just be hard of thinking.

About the sort of time I would be down there, I sometimes use in the daytime. Have you seen the guy on his motorised bent ?

That's not clever. I will keep an eye out for this numpty. Better to have no lights at all than misleading ones.

I know him - that thing goes like a rocket, but he's trying to fix some frame damage at the moment. He came on my City Heights ride in the Gower Festival last year - I don't know whether you know Morris Lane in St Thomas but he can get up there at about 30mph...
