Close pass this morning, worth reporting to their employer?

That looked deliberate. Why pass that close that slowly? I feel he eased off. Was it the same van that went to pull out from the right at the start?

Emailed the company, will report back what (if anything) they say.

I admit, I've deliberated all day over whether to contact them or not - but I'd hate for them to do something similar to another cyclist as next time it could be fatal.

Nothing wrong with your riding, pass was too close. If the driver was not aware what he did, he will know soon and probably will save someone in the future from injury. You might want to lower your camera a tad bit though.

Yeah, it was the van pulling out on the right. I made eye contact (as best as I could in the conditions!) as I didn't want them to try and pull out on me.

Heh, yes already been told that  I need to take a closer look at my mount and work-out what needs to change. I've already tightened the screws on the mount but I've got a feeling that my gear/brake cables push the camera and it's mount up during the ride. I can push it back down, but within a few mins it's pointing to the sky again. Doh!

FYI - Got a prompt response (within the hour) from the company last night:

I acknowledge receipt and thank you for your email advising of the inconsiderate and bad driving of the above Cablesheer vehicle.

I am extremely sorry to learn of this incident and can assure you that we take such matters very seriously. This vehicle is a pool van and once we have established who the driver is we will fully investigate this matter and the appropriate measures will be actioned. In the meantime I would be grateful if you could forward the video footage that you have taken.

We completely agree that this type of behaviour and lack of consideration to other road uses does not reflect the requirements of the highway code as well as reflecting badly on the Company and moreover is not how we would expect our drivers to conduct themselves. For this I apologise to you , it most certainly is not the image or ethos that this Company wishes to portray.

I do appreciate you bringing this to my attention and am sorry that your first contact with Cablesheer has been a negative experience. I hope this email goes some way in assuring you that we do not take these matters lightly and follow strict guidelines with all our employees in respect of code and conduct. I have copied this into our Contracts Manager who will be able to ascertain from our trackers who the driver was in order to discuss this issue with him directly and take any necessary disciplinary measures.

Should you wish to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We hope your next contact with Cablesheer is a more positive experience and look forward to receiving the footage at your earliest convenience.

I've thanked them for the prompt response, shared the video with them and asked for not only their comments after seeing it but the outcome after they find out who was driving the vehicle.

Better than Autoglass. I complained about a driver who close passed me then when I asked for more space told me I should be out of his way and cycling on the pavement.

No proper response. I had been hoping for (albeit not expecting) something more like this !

Oh yeah, I'd email them and offer to send them the video.

Don't mention the video!

I have found that the bestmethod is to write a polite email. The driver will then tell a pack oflies and blame you.. give them enough rope to hang themselves

At THAT point send in the video and ask why their driver is lying

Far more effective as managers hate to made to look ill informedand have to back track because of their employee's dishonetsy

Hi All

I had the following close pass on my commute this morning:

FYI - Made the video private (for now) at the request of the company.

The pass is at around 24 seconds. There's a second pass at 1:45 from the same van, whilst not as close as the first pass - it's clear from the van passing me before how it should be done.

I stuck a camera on the front of my bike a few months ago and have never felt the need to review, let alone upload the footage before. However, this morning I felt the pass was far too close especially given the conditions. It was on the A21 (London Road) at the top of Bromley Hill heading into Downham.

Should I email (and/or tweet) the company to report this? Obviously not expecting anything to come of it, but at least feel if they flag it with the driver they may be more wary of passing cyclists in such a way in the future.

Im logged in yet it still says "private". How else am I supposed to view private videos, I assume I should be able to given the context of this thread.

I made the video private (i.e. no one can view it anymore) at the request of the company. I updated the thread my original post to say that.
