Last weekend I dug out the old Dawes town bike in preparation for the ice/snow/blizzard conditions forecast, as my road bike and recumbent are not ideal with their 23mm tyres. I was actually quite looking forward to the challenge of a difficult commute, but not a single fleck of snow has fallen this week so far, and the temperature today was only -1.

I must say though that I've enjoyed using the cycle paths, being able to dive down the side roads and I've even a bit of off roading, (well grass anyway).

Am I the only one looking forward to a bit of the white stuff?

I would be happy if I never saw snow in my lifetime again.
Hate the stuff.

Two buffs, one pirate and t'other over my gob, Aldi gloves and it was quite a pleasant cycle home from work this morning.

Think there was enough snow last winter to challenge most and would be happy seeing none this time around. Sadly it looks bad for Saturday

The snow would give me a chance to use the abominable snow bike, an EBay MTB fited with ice spikers.
I knew when I got it road worthy there was probably going to be no snow this year.

I'm waiting for some snow and serious ice, so I can try my ice spikers out. They've been gritting round here and cause we've had no rain, the roads are fine. -4 tonight I think so I'll see in the morning how it looks and weather to take the ice bike.

I'm such a softie I adopted the south but still went out for a ride today. I don't know what it was but the air was not only cold but solid as well. I don't think the air is meant to be that solid and it's no fun on a bike - my legs felt like they were working but the computer assured me I was cycling at a speed as low as the temperature. The sky was blue, the wind glacial and the air solid, I tell you! An ice wall!

Snow is fine for the first 20 minutes, it's even great fun. Then it melts, gets swished around again before it refreezes, and then you're trying to cycle along the topologically tyrannised top of a glacier and the only flat bits are the tracks exactly where the cars demand to be.

It was bloody cold this AM and my Garmin agreed with the forecast of -6 too

That was nearly my limit on the legs (with the decathlon longs) - if it had done -10 then the waterproof leggings would have been on. Just so dry, and not so much ice frost. Took the spike bike for the grip, but it was fine.

My skin around my eyes is suffering big style. Using loads of moisturiser crap and anti inflammatory cream

It was quite nice, yes, even if the weatherman said -5 here, I don't think people believed him ^_^ as there was loads of cyclists about. Me, I would normally chicken out when I see ice, but I followed all the advice of you cc commuters, and got to work in one piece. If it snows, I probably will cycle to work, maybe take the train back if it ices up. +1 to me, coward newbie that I am? :bravo:
