23mm tyres are perfect for a thin layer of snow, the higher pressure means you cut through it perfectly. Not so good when there's ice underneath or beyond a certain depth, but in the cities it isn't generally a problem.

Bloody parky this morning, worst fo the week by far. Not to bad up to about 18-20 but above that the windchill went right through me. Fingures almost too numb to lock bike up by the time I got to work!.

I love snow too.

I'm back out in it at 11am - half day as I've got my CBT training course. Might just have warmed my kit up by then on the radiator. Friggin back brake froze again. Deffo strip the cable this weekend.

Oh, I'm glad it's not just me! My rear brake locked up coming home last night. I think that as long as the cold persists I'll keep my can of GT85 in the pannier. Hopefully that will fix it.

As for snow- I had more than enough last year! So far, down here on the South Coast, this cold snap has also stayed free of rain, so no need to worry about ice either. Will keep my fingers crossed this weekend!!

Been snowing steadily here for the last few hours. Great dog walking weather although the roads beginning to get a bit scary. Hopefully it won't get too bad before I need to go out in it tomorrow evening. Take it easy out there everyone.

Just started snowing here, and it's settling. Will all depend how how long it keeps it up on how thick it gets.

I'm working nights tonight too, will be taking the cross bike in and seeing how I fare on semi slick 35mm tyres. I think I'll be letting some air out to put the tyres at a soft 50 psi though.

Snowing here now...there's a thick flurry of swirly flakes...then it stops, then it's starts again.

I've made jam roly poly and custard for tea after a cold afternoon of pedalling :hungry:

Fell off my bike twice today :cry:I's not even that cold here: normally if I see my front garden/steps iced up, I won't ride, but this morning at 8am it was fine. I don't have to ride on the roads, I do cycling path cum pavement, park, more cycling path, more park, more cycling path and that's me at work. On entering park N1, a passing dog walker warned me about the ice, so I slowed to 2mph , got through it no bother, reached the bits with the shops, see other cyclists and stop worrying.
Through the industrial estate: no ice, just slush, away I go. Want to resume my normal 5mph speed, but I desist in the name of caution.
On entering park N2 (Glasgow Green) I had to break a wee bit (back break, I read in another thread that this is the wrong breaks to favor), down I go like a numpty. I was doing all right before using the brakes!! But how was I meant to stop??? I then take to ride the grassy bit, ok until I need to reach the opposite grassy bits ...should have walked the bike, but I am stubborn, down I go again!
After the first fall a gent my age (cheeky sod, what goes round will come round!) passes me on his bike, smiles at me, I tell him "be careful of the ice, I just fell" he smirks and says "I know", away he goes. If he had stopped I would have asked him the make of his tires, the b*****d. :gun:
After fall N2, near the exit of the park, had to adjust my handlebars: a couple of lyca cladded young ones (considering racing in the park, bless them) ask me if I was ok, did not want to approach sooner in case I got scared of strange men in Glasgow Green, they said. I reassured them, put my allen key back in my rucksack, exit the park and a road worker tells me to be careful, the path is all ice ....
Reach work without further disasters. All day I see cyclists back and forth the SECC .... What did I do wrong????:banghead:
Took the train back home, just as well, I think I need new back break pads.
At least I'm not scared of coming off my bike anymore :wahhey:

Cycled to work through the snow around Reading this morning, it was actually good fun! Road tyres at 120psi cut through the slushy snow really nicely, now I am just hoping that it does not all freeze up for the journey home!
