A moka pot doesn't make espresso.

It qualifies under the definition. It just happens that the pressure is low meaning you get far less of the unhealthy solids.

You can use a 3 cup and add water to a mug to make a plain black. A 6 cup makes one mug full but again you can half fill 2 mugs with hot water to give 2 servings.

Since the OP is drinking his coffee with milk, I'd say it's not that important whether or not the Aeropress or moka pot make a 'true' espresso.

I have an aeropress and a Gaggia espresso machine. The results do not taste the same, even if milk is added.

Ersatz espresso made with a cheap domestic machine like a Tassimo isn't going to taste the same as a proper espresso made in a decent commercial machine either.

And if you add milk, it's not an espresso anyway.

Presumably for the authentic Ersatz experience, your espresso should be made from acorns.

(sits down for a while, untangling "ersatz" and "authentic" )

So "Ersatz espresso" vs. "not espresso".

We are in the process of putting in a new kitchen at the moment and one of my plans was to replace my old nespresso machine with a new shiny one,

However inspired by this thread I took the plunge and bought a De Longhi bean to cup machine - wow what a difference.

Still experimenting and using supermarket bought beans but achieving great coffee so far.

Any recommendations for beans

I like strong black coffee and my lovely wife likes weak ( my opinion) lattes.
