We often visit Pret a manger, for a coffee. But prices for an americano is £3.80 ISH and Latte's even more.

However, they do "filter" coffee for only 99p!
Not one that is clearly advertised, but is a bargain relatively. Sometimes, their filter coffee is empty and they give you an americano for the same price. An even better bargain.

Like to praise Pret's as well. As soon as it gets to 9pm, when the cafe closes, a man from the charity food kitchens empties the shelves of all remaining sandwiches.

McDonald's coffee is amongst the best and cheapest on the High St IME. Coffee and a piggy muffin for £2.99 - breakfast of champions!

McDonald's coffee is good stuff, then downside being having to visit McDonalds to obtain one. I could put up with that but I don't even like their "food".

Even instant coffee has shot up in price. 8 odd quid for a jar of Nessafe - fortunately Tesco dark roast is all but indistinguishable and is £3.

Well, write it down boy ......
I'm done with having a coffee out. We all have a price point which breaks our back, I didn't mind £2.50, or even £3, but it is now £3.60 or even at one place I noticed recently £4.15.
I now have a sparkling water, which is usually £1.50 and is quite refreshing. Still a daft price for water, but I don't mind keeping the smaller businesses going.

when i started riding on club rides over a decade ago i used to take £5 note and expect change from coffee and cake , nowadays your lucky to get change from £10

Coffee at McD is OK - perfectly acceptable and better than some Americano I have had for a much much higher price

problem is that I am not allowed to eat anything from there except the chip - sorry - fries

good tip about Pret though - must remember that in case I ever see one - there are none round here!!

The regular coffee & cake stops seem to have cottoned on to the fact that even if we are annoyed, we'll still pay £3+ for a cup of coffee (even a double espresso is nudging the boundary now) and £4+ for a piece of cake. It's annoying, but makes my regular bakery stops in France (1.30€ for an allongé and 1.50€ for a fantastic croissant) feel all the more delightful.

Perhaps we need a law like they have in Italy that you can get an espresso for 1€ if you stand at the bar... it is a human right, after all.

Oh, and Greggs coffee isn't too shoddy either. I'm told that their tea is good too, but I wouldn't know, as tea is the Devil's wee to me.

We have started to use Greggs when we go on long motorway trips rather than going in and having a more expensive and worse version from inside

Hmm can't say I'm a fan of Maccies coffee but then again since I got a good bean to cup machine for home I've gone very fussy!
Even so called baristo coffees aren't as good but it could just be me getting used to how I drink it. I rarely find coffee purchased at a cafe is strong enough for my taste.
