I am fussy. Hate instant. Even bike packing it has to be coffee bags. Camping it's the stove top pot. Home or work it's a Dolce Gusto. £4 or less for 16 really nice coffees.

Work changed the coffee supplier in our building from an independent to Starbucks (our own staff). It's apparently sold £100k less coffee since the switch. Looking at going back. I get points for cycling to work and haven't bothered to use any for a free coffee since the switch as I don't like Starbucks coffee.

Generally I treat myself to one coffee out a week. Being part of 3 mobile network, you can obtain a code once a week to get any Caffe Nero drink for £1 - which is a good deal in my book.

Hmm can't say I'm a fan of Maccies coffee but then again since I got a good bean to cup machine for home I've gone very fussy!
Even so called baristo coffees aren't as good but it could just be me getting used to how I drink it. I rarely find coffee purchased at a cafe is strong enough for my taste.

I think there's a lot of filthy stuff masquerading as 'artisan' and a lot of 'baristas' with only a rudimentary understanding of how to make coffee. And it costa lot, too...

One of the things i object to about the current "normal" for coffee is the amount of time it takes

If I want a coffee then I often have to order it and then the person behind the counter has to
turn round
fill a coffee receptacle from a hopper
squish it down witha thingy
put it in the steamy whatsit
get a cup of teh appropriate size and put it under the steamy whatsit
start the steamy whatsit off and wait while the water drips through

hopefully they will get a tray and stuff sorted while this happens - hopefully
then remove the cup and put the used coffee into a bin

then deliver the fresh coffee on the tray

THEN I can pay

all of which takes an awful lot longer than pouring some filter coffee out of a jug

during which time the person behind me who just wants a scone and a bottle of coke is still waiting

Of course - adding extra staff would sort this - but in a lot of places this is not the case

and in anycase - the coffee is not better

so in effect you are paying for a performance art item - not the coffee

I usually buy a 400g ground coffee from supermarket, their own brand or cheap stuff is perfectly ok for me, but yes it seems to have gone up from 2.80ish to 3.50. The café in the hospital does a small flat white for £2.20. it's very nice but very small.

I guess it's because overheads and staff costs have all gone up and the customer has to support that

The price of coffee itself has soared.

I don't mind paying 3.60 for an excellent coffee, but so many are poorly made. I'd rather have a Gregg's coffee, they are consistently good ime

For Waitrose customers, they offer a free coffee, but you have to take your own cup. Just need to download their App.

cool - if you have a Waitrose anywhere near you

note - I used to sometimes shop at the same Waitrose as the Princess of Wales

just saying

never saw her but I do remember people saying that the footfall in the place increased greatly when the fact that she shopped then became known in the area!

Ive modified a few of my regular rides to ensure a Greggs stop. Under £3 for a flat white and a cake. It doesn't have to be amazing, its a quick fuel stop.

I took my Dad to a hospital appointment last week and he gave me a £10 note to get us a coffee and cake each in the Costa there. Them were them days ....
