Afternoon,
A few notifications reminded me i started this thread nearly 4y ago. Well as an update, a heart scare prompted some blood tests in April leading to the attached

So, down from 7.2 though still highish. My heart consultant is not convinced of the efficacy of statins for healthyish people without any other underlying health issues. CT scan etc showed no arterial damage for this 63y old as well so we agreed i wouldn't take them. If any damage had been revealed i may well have started on statins. I was found to have a chronic vit D deficency and now take rather a lot. I will say that in between my initial heart concerns and as a result of various check up delays amounting to 6 months, i put on 4-5 kilos as a result of doing less rigorous exercise/riding. I have lost all top end power on the bike. I fear those two things will have the more adverse impact on my health-or at least my ego.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.

Snap. I've just recently been told my vit D is very low and started on supplements. I blame my sunlight paranoia, I absolutely never get burned these days. Always covered up and sunblocked to the hilt.

Completely off topic though. Nothing to do with cholestorol, lipoproteins or statins.

Vitamin D3 is produced from 7-dehydrocholesterol, so it is sort of something to do with it.

But the relationship between vitamin D and cholesterol is still actively researched, with few simple conclusions yet.

My Vit D came back at 17 in February. Now take Nutrition Geeks Vit D. Test taken (paid for) because I broke my pelvis. Scans told me my bones were normal(slightly better than average for age).

I've been taking supplements for a few years now, since my vitamin D tested in the severely deficient category. I'm not surprised, it was low in 2012, and that was before I was spending most of my time indoors.

I’ve been taking Atorvastatin since my heart attack in March. Straight in on 80mg. No discernable side effects but my cholesterol is way down and I’m still here. I’ll take that
Congratulations on your survival and your good fortune with side effects. I think the guidance is different in secondary prevention so, unlike GPs, they can just start you on maximum dose and monitor more closely, but I hope they keep giving you regular liver function tests to check all remains well. Did they confirm atherosclerosis?
