indeed, its insane that they havent got a non emergency number setup... beggers belief that they can't just route something like AREACODE-555-5555 to the most relevant police place.. for example?

instead each area seems to have it's own number, okay so i could put my local plod in, but as you say that just assumes i've got the accident in that area.

and thats just the coppers, what about if you want medical help ( like you said you wanted to get to the gp) should you ring for ambulance or just try to find nearest medical centre ?

( mind you, call box might have some info assuming its not been vandalised  )

Actually the police have had a number for for the local nick, in days of yore when each area had a loacl code (we were GREenwich which is stoill the local code of 473) and then 1212. if you look the number for the local nick in many places still ends 1212

Yup, Scotland Yard is (was?) Whitehall-1212.

Off topic: what is plod?

Plod = Police.

Many thanks for all those numbers Vikeonabike, very useful to have a few of those saved, ta!

Hope you're feeling ok today Debian, did you join CTC today? I did the day after I needed to and even asked if it was ok for the reasons I wanted to join and it was perfectly acceptable to them.

Not too bad today, thanks. A little sore and limping but OK

I emailed CTC and got this reply:

"I am sorry to learn that you were involved in an accident recently. If you would like our legal team to assist you, then you would need to contact them directly on: 0844 736 8452. This is Russell, Jones & Walker.

If they agree to take on your case, then they will advise you to take out the five year Commuted Membership with CTC which currently costs £148 (5 years membership for the price of 4).

I hope this information is helpful and thank you for contacting CTC.

Kind regards

if you haven’t joined CTC, have you thought of contacting your home insurance company under "legal cover" ?
personal injuries might be covered.

VikeOnABike, can I suggest you stick those numbers on the end of your "statement template" sticky, or somewhere equally obvious, so that people can find them again easily?

I've spent too much time in P&L. I read this and at first glance suspected it was a post of wholly unwarranted rudeness!

I think the key word is advise there, I don't think you'd have an obligation to sign up for more than a year.

Glad you're not too bad today.

+1.

I've never been knocked off, only fallen off of my own stupidity, but I was nudge-threatened by a white van once and immediately photographed the number plate and called the cops. The driver and van was one they'd been after for some time for a number of offences so I did them a favour, never had to testify or give a statement, and at least I felt I'd done the right thing.

I can't offer you any advice on your particular case, tho, sorry. I hope you're ok that's the main thing.

Did you get the driver's details?
while it's clear in your mind, write down *EXACTLY* what happened and what was said.

Do this as soon as you can, although the driver should have reported the collision, it sounds as though they may not have done.

Very wise.

Photograph the damage to the bike and you now. Photograph the progression of any injuries (after my last serious off, my hand & forearm swelled up to about 2x normal size within a couple of days).

Be careful and methodical examining the bike - I didn't notice gouges on my gear shifters until the LBS pointed them out; neither of us spotted that my rear mudgaurd had been cracked either, so I ended up paying for that.

Keep a diary detailing the progression of your injuries, and how they restrict you (if they do) in doing "normal" things. Note any expenses you have due to not having a bike, or not being able to ride one. Keep receipts/train tickets.

You could ask them whether there's CCTV covering the area that they can recover, or whether they'll ask for witnesses. Some people do put up handmade signs with contact details appealing for witnesses if necessary, although it sounds like your chap has admitted fault - you'll be ok as long as he doesn't change his story.

IMO, yes. This will mean that you have to pursue a personal injury claim though. Bikeline are good, as are the CTC people, Russell Jones & Walker.
