Migh sound like a stupid question but i was informed by one of the local cyclists that its not the norm to wear undies under your Lycra shorts. Is it personal preference or is it a friction issue.

It actually depends on the shorts. If they are proper cycling shorts with padding... Go commando. If they are bog standard Lycra shorts with no padding, then you might want a padded pair of undies underneath.

Personally I like bog standard lycra cycle shorts with padded undies, purely bcoz I don't like the silicon they put round the legs of proper cycling shorts.

What reasons are there not to wear lycra, I cannot think of one for the cycling I do. For plodding down to the shops or pubs, maybe lycra is not necessary.
