Woke up realising I had caught a cold from the disease magnet in hour house, young child. Not bad enough to warrant skiving taking sick leave and the weather was far too nice for using the car. Scalped by a MTB, while I was waiting for the lights to change at a pedestrian crossing. Made my day that, despite the efforts of the MTB rider I was able to catch them very easily without actually putting any special effort in. Un-scalped myself, pulled away, he caught me again while I was waiting at a RAB and choking on the fumes from the lorry in front, he then decided to try to undertake me on the way round the RAB, but again I pulled away. Other side of RAB, slight incline and pulled away even faster, made me happy I decided to ride in. I think I am finally used to my new Marathon Plus tyres extra weight and higher rolling resistance.

I went to work the other day with a cold - thought I might struggle but I was flying, with ease too.

Got picked up a few hours later as I just got worse and worse!

I think I am starting to have the same problem, need to take some paracetamol at lunch time and hope for the best. If it becomes too bad, instead of my normal extended route, I can just take the shortest route home, which is only 3km and mostly on shared cycle paths.

I was I'll a few weeks back, I just thought I was having a bad day, I was feeling more tired than usual and my legs were heavy, that evening I kept going dizzy when I bent down, turned out it was a head cold.

I kept cycling just took it easier, i soon recovered, in my smoking days that would of lingered and I'd have probably had time off work. Just goes to shows the benefits from cycling to your fitness and health.

I did take it easier this morning, on the way to work I normally take in Swindon's only climb, a 47m elevation, but decided to give it a miss today.

Yes the little darlings within two weeks of being back at school have brought back the lurgy to the Fossy household......

Kids came down last week, wife at weekend and me on Monday - so far not too bad.

If head colds then you can ride fine, and I find it actually helps. If it's flu, then have a rest.

I got scalped on Monday taking it easy, buy the guy only catches me if I'm not well. No point ever chasing him as he jumps all red lights - I've yet to see him stop at one. He usually sails through as I'm sat waiting at the lights.

I think some people say that paracetamol is bad as it hides the problem.

I had a high temperature when at home - cycling the 15.6km (short route) home might have made that worse. Though I was shivering at work and could hardly use my fingers... probably time to call it a day (as I did).

Touch of man flu, boys?

I had a cold, got up and went to work.

When your fingers are so buggered and are shivering - it's hardly a good time to go cycling

I think this whole premis of women bashing on about "man flu" is just annoying - like women are all infallible to flu and such. Heck - It was a close one with me appendicitis because I ignored the pain.

You can't argue with science!

(Disclaimer: the Daily Mail made too much of that study, but it did indicate that female hormones may give women stronger immune systems.)

On a more serious note, if you are actually ill and it's possible for you to call in sick, it's better for the health of your colleagues and anyone else that you will come into contact with that you stay home.

That's why I'm at home today - rediscovering the joys of TJ Hooker at the moment!!!
Seriously, I'm hoping that it will make it go quicker by having a complete day of rest. Plus, teaching singing isn't great when you have no voice!
