so i currently have this bike
falcon-trailfinder.jpg

as my one and only bike
but am considering buying a bike like one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R2.TR10.TRC0.A0.Xxbox &_nkw=vintage racer&_sacat=0&_from=R40
and aren't sure which one to reserve for pleasure riding and which one to use as a daily commuter and be left in the rain under a tree whilst i'm at school?
considering i love ultralight so i wouldn't be carrying much gear on a tour so don't need panniers etc, but want something i can comfortably ride all day for between 70 and 100 odd miles
so what bike for what job?
Cheers Ed

Keep the one pictured for commuting to school. The tourer will be better suited to longer distance riding

the ones in link are racers really rather than tourers
i would class pictured one as a tourer considering it has 700X38c wheels/tyres

@young Ed there is no reason why you cant commute on a racer style bike , loads of us do .

but why not do as @Kies suggested and keep the racer for the longer distant rides , so you enjoy it more

is the riding position of racer nice for 60 or 70 mile rides? even with flat bars potentially fitted?

I suppose it depends on the position of your racer. It you have set up your racer to a more comfortable position, it may not be a big issue.
Well, I am going to do it in March, ride about 40-50 mile a day for 7 days, in my Triban 3. Will let you know how I get on.

Any bike can be a tourer as long as a rack (panniers) can be fitted. Mudguards might be nice, but not essential. Riding position is rider dependant. Some like the stretched out position on a dropped bar bike, whilst others prefer the more upright position of a bike with straight bars. I have both bikes and like them equally. For a 30-50 blast on a summers day - road bike. Touring - i would prefer a relaxed straight bar

100+ miles for a sunday club run that sounds a bit heavy?

Club runs can easily be 50-70 mile runs. A 100 miles might not be for every club rider, but some are that good
