Commuting in wet weather

I have some Gore Bike wear ones which are excellent in both terms of breathability and your ability to fit them over your shoes. they are not cheap, but mine are now 7 years old or so (with a couple of repairs after a dog attack) and are still going strong. I like them because they are exactly as their name suggests - paclite...I also used to use them for my mountaineering as well because I liked them so much!
they are warm though (simply from the effect of putting a 2nd layer on) so I generally only wear them when it is raining hard enough to get wet, rather than fine drizzle.

Sounds like the OP doesn't want to change before getting on the train - sitting on the train in wet gear is probably no fun.

Aldi had rainlegs when I was in at the weekend. In a flourescent yellow. May be better than full over trousers.

I have a rucksack so I take clothes in. I cycle in swimming shorts and they dry out fairly quickly

I think the OP would feel a tad awkward getting on a train in swimmers.

I had a similar commute when I lived in Edinburgh and worked in Glasgow, I found commuting in lycra was the only option. I had a good waterproof jacket and just wore lycra leggings. On the plus side, the seat next to me, was the last seat to be taken on the busy commute train. It meant I could read the paper in comfort.

Fair point about sitting in wet clothes. I'll admit I don't have that issue because I can shower at work

If it is only a short ride like yours I dont think you need cycling specific waterproofs. Any lined waterproofs will probably do.

Get a good Winter bike like mine. Very little maintenence and not far to fall when it is icy.

What kind of bike is that? Looks fun!

Stop it.....Stop it.....

Its a Kickbike. Vicksters probably too old and knackered for it ;0)

Talking about Winter gear I added another line of defence to the cold today. It really was not that cold but I wanted to make sure I wasn't rubbed raw. It is a pair of Ladies tights, 130 denier, which is quite thick. I rode 26 miles without any chaffing and kept very warm.

eVent or Gore AS waterproof trousers: 100% waterproof and so breathable I tend not to bother taking them off when it stops raining until I've reached somewhere I was intending to stop anyway. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

I dont mind sharing my feminine side, it is supposed to attract women. When I offered to model my tights for Jannie she locked herself in the bathroom.
