Anyone fancy a cycling trip through France?

Trips I've done alone so far are;

Newhaven to Dieppe to Le Tréport to Neufchâtel en Bray and back again
Normandy beaches http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/normandy-beaches.92653/
Isle of Wight http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/isle-of-wight.127866/

I'm thinking of the last weekend in July for about 10 days. I'd prefer b&b but happy to give camping a go too. Dates flexible too. Be nice to go with someone more experienced. I'm pretty fit, not TdF level, but don't have a road racer just a Dawes Mojave hybrid bike.

Based in the south east. 45 age. Fitness, could manage max 25 miles a day, fairly moderate, not up and down huge hills. Easy going. Like local food (plat du jour type eating), culture, local markets. Prefer ferry/train to get there - happy to meet up. Route wise considered the Loire Valley but open to suggestions.

Hope to hear.

Helpful to know where you are based? Age group you are in? Fitness level? as in comfortable daily mileage. Likes, dislikes. Late/early starts etc. Flying, Ferry?
Planning a French tour myself again, but will be leaving early September to avoid the school holiday crowds and prices.

Very relaxed! Think you need to advertise on a 'Milling around France and doing interesting things' forum, and state your preferred means of getting round as bicycle….. rather than a cycling through France forum adding interesting things to do on the way! Sounds damn fine though….

I agree with John. Most people on here would I think regard 60 to 70 miles a day as average. It does sound a rather grand way of seeing France.

touring isn't about how many miles you do...its about having fun on a bike. There are no set rules, it's all about just doing your thing. I agree than many on here would be doing more miles in a day most likely, but so what...there may be somebody reading who wants to tour but doesn't want o do the 60-70+ miles days and they may be perfect for this trip...so no harm in posting mate:smile:

Totally agree. But it would also be beneficial to post on a 'Milling around France and doing interesting things' forum!

Is there such a thing?....if so then yes of course, but also I think this forum should be a place where anybody feels welcome to post about touring subjects without feeling 'silly'. I know that's not the intention but I suspect it's perhaps a risk...let the guy ask a question without judging...it's all good fun...just because some of us can ride 70+ a day on a fully loaded touring bike over mountians doesn't mean everybody can or indeed should want or aspire to...personally I like the idea of 'pottering around' France on a bike on Le Plat de Jour Tour^_^

High miles or low miles, it doesn't matter.
The moral of the story is to give a little more detail in the opening post in order to find the ideal cycling companion:smile: .

I don't think anybody is judging. Just giving info. I also think it is a lovely idea to potter around France. By the way dragging [in my case] a heavily loaded bike up a mountain on a 70 mile route is my idea of hell!
Luckily that will never happen.

Isn't the definition of a joke that it's funny and not taking the **** out of someone? You could take a quick glance at the OP's username and learn a lot.

It was never taking the mick… (can I say that on here without offending a Michael?) I'll leave, its a bit too uptight on here...
