Completed my first 30+ miler today

I completed my first 30+ mile ride today, averaging in at 14.5 mph over 33.5 miles though I'm not too worried about the speed. I have to say that on the way back at around the 28 mile marker I was pretty nackered and the long hill finish didn't help matters! Having run out of water, I do have to wonder if I should add another water bottle into the mix at some point.

I have to say, progressing from 8 mile rides to 30 mile rides in a few weeks feels rewarding! I was just wondering if the progress keeps on coming as I'm going out nearly every day, and would love to see a time when I'm doing these 30 milers on a daily basis with ease  Then comes the speed gains...

Excellent, I am still on the 8 to 20 miles but 30 is the next target.

Well done mate:bravo: ...I've yet to get out on my bike (as I haven't bought it yet), but what you have just achieved is my inital target after I've built up from to 10's. 20's etc.

Hope I'm posting a similar thread soon^_^

Congratulations! :bravo:That's a big improvement in just a few weeks.

Your improvement is quite inspiring for me as I started riding just a couple of weeks ago and like you I am riding every day in order to try and improve my fitness. At first I was doing a rather pathetic 4 miles over hilly terrain but now that's up to 10. That was with a 17kg MTB that was too small for me though, just tonight I have purchased my first road bike so I'll be able to go further on that. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be up to 30 miles like you.

Thanks all

I had a slight advantage in that I'm riding a fairly decent carbon road bike, but I have to say I can relate to you on the pathetic 4 milers! When I first started in early August I was huffing and puffing after 5-6 miles but I've really started to notice my endurance sky rocket. I'd say just stick with the daily rides (some shorter, some longer) and set your goal in milestones and you'll be at 30 soon enough too! I upped the 10 miles to 15, 20 and 25 over the last week on a pretty hilly route and I'm feeling stronger every day ! The worst parts getting the motivation to leave the house!

Thanks for the advice . Getting out of the house isn't a problem for me, what demotivates me is getting tired after just a few miles! But it's good to know that someone can make such quick gains, I will keep plugging away at it and hopefully will be up to respectable distances soon.

Nice bike by the way!

Well done buddy, i'm kinda in the same boat. Started on the cycling about 2 months ago and have worked up through the mileage a bit at a time. Started with 12-15 mile runs then up to 20-25 milers and on sunday morning went for my longest at 34 miles. Actually felt rather fresh after the run but legs were a little heavy for a couple of days tho. Next target is a 40 miler then hopefully I'll be ready for a 50 mile charity ride in early october!!!

Well done. I remember when I first started riding how chuffed I was that I managed to ride all the way the London (15 miles). Now I ride to London to the start of a ride...... I think once you've cracked 30 miles a couple of times, then got to 50 miles, the world becomes your oyster and you'll be surprised at how quickly you can up the mileage.

Well done, keep it up.

I'm hovering around the 15 - 45 mile area. For me it's fitting in the time with other jobs. I'm supposed to be decorating .

Went out today and did just over 20. The weather is set to turn later today and for rest of week and weekend so I'll get the painting done then. Plus I'm out Friday for an interview so that's scuppered both riding and painting.

I want to get out with fellow riders but don't know anyone. Local club looks like best bet but it would tie up the best part of Sunday when I want to spend it with family. I only seem to get the time when I'm not at work or for an hour when I get home.

GF is keen to increase her riding and even suggested going into town on Saturday but weather looks (not good is putting it mildly) $%^&£.

My speeds are good, especially as I have a 30 year old frame and wheel-set (still got 27" wheels) and a 56 year old body. I'm just not getting round to putting in the miles. If you look at my Sports Tracker you'll see a ride into Leicester (another interview) and a 46.6 mile ride but they are the exceptions.
