This is a bit of a confession and not something I am proud of.

Don't really know why but I got into a huge row with a driver the beeped at me as he passed. It was on an urban dual carrigeway and I was about a metre out from the kerb in the left lane with queuing traffic about 200m ahead, which is where I caught him up again and starting filtering up the middle.

He then opened his window and starting remonstraing with me for riding too far out and holding him up. Next thing I know is the red mist descended  and I continued the argument with him for around a mile as the queue moved along and I stayed alongside at his window.

I have never done this before and I didn't make a rational arguement (can't really remember what I said), so I apologise to anyone else in Edinburgh that has trouble with a gold BMW as it is probably my fault

Gosh, a BMW driver! There's a surprise!

We all go there, don't beat yourself up about it.

It doesn't happen often but I found helps me calm down is just leaving the car stuck in the queue and shooting by, maybe then do they realise how much of a pr1ck they've been. The cyclist that has been holding me up is actually faster. Then again I think they're probably too thick to realise that.

BTW - Its just my theory but people are getting so fed up with the roadworks in Edinburgh just now they are taking it out on us. Its all our faults whilst riding a bike we actually carrying a secret stash of traffic cones just to close of the road.

You call that red mist? You must be positively Ghandi-esque the rest of the time!
I was expecting something along the lines of smashing the windscreen with your bike, before hauling the driver out across the broken glass and bouncing their head off the bonnet until you realised that they had stopped breathing some time ago, and all that you had in your hands was a pulpy, lifeless piece of meat.:evil::smile:
Not that I entertain violent fantasies on a regular basis you understand....

I don't blame you mate. Sometimes the idiocy of drivers just gets too much sometimes.

Since I have been commuting on a daily basis if I hadn't learnt to live with all the hassle from drivers that it brings I would by locked up indefinitely for mass murder with a handle bar mounted bazooka by now...

The paradox is clearly lost on this sort of person. He is the one in slow moving traffic. Who exactly is holding who up here?

You're NOT proud of having a go at a winker in a gold BMW?

I've just nominated you for an OBE for services to humanity.

Come on guys lets not generalise. Remember BentMikey once drove a BMW....

Radger, don't worry, we all loose the plot sometimes, and you only lost it a little bit.

Get a camera. I find that pointing to it and seeing the look of realisation on their little faces provides me with the satisfaction that I need. If they don't care just post it on youtube and be happy in the knowledge that many people will see them for this dipsticks that they are!

You didn't hit him or even the car, and you call that 'losing it'? Blimey. I thumped a VW with my clenched fist yesterday and hardly gave it a second thought.

My mum drives one of those hatch back BMW's  its hand for puting the bike in the back.
My boss and most of the other directors drive BMW's too.

My colleague has an old one.

I just hope none of them become Bloody Motorised W@nkers when they are behind the wheel, it's fair to say there's quite a few out there.

PS none of them drive Gold ones

When you next go past someone in that situation, Better to say 'would you mind moving over as you are slowing me down'

I have to say that the comparison between cycling and m/cycling in slower moving traffic is like chalk and cheese.

The mindset seems to be that as soon as the traffic starts to flow, they will have to pass a cyclist again, but most move over to let a m/cycle pass as a m/cycle never holds them up by any real degree.

Must be the season for it. Someone pulled out in front of me this morning without even looking so my foot slipped off the pedal and accidently made contact with the back of the car as I passed him. I don't normally do that.

We've all been there. Once the adrenaline has worn off, I've certainly felt that bit of regret about how I've handled things.
