What 'am a 'gonna do.......

Anyone tried dropping a dirty old rear mech or other dirty component in the dishwasher?

I managed to clean off and partially de anodise an old Raleigh Record Sprint gold anodised chainset the other week.

I'm thinking of dropping an old rear mech in the dishwasher to see what happens.

Try some brush on Gunk or Jizer degreasant. Gets rid of all the muck. Rinse off with water then re-lube and jobs a good un.

I don't know about yours but my dishwasher is loaded with dishwater salt - it is the last thing I want my alloy (or other metal) components to go anywhere near. Further it gets pretty hot when it dries the content which can't be good for the plastic and rubbery bits. Your ceramic bearings might survive it ok...

I had big problems a few years ago after cleaning a pair of TZR250 crankcases in the dishwasher. The crankcases were fine, but my wife never really forgave me.

I've used the dishwasher on occasion to clean cassettes, mechs etc.
Soft water area though, so no dishwasher salt involved, and I fished them out before the drying cycle.

Oh, and I have a very understanding wife (and they were bits off her bike).

I have this one for about 3 years. Fabulous for metal bits but far too small for e.g. chainset. Also no porous (e.g. plastic) item or cracks could form since these things supposedly work on the principle of exploding microscopic bubbles...

Subs, although Winchester are my favoured brand now, slightly harder hitting, and better expansion. RWS Superdome for the springer though, deadly accurate.

It has a reasonably big 2.5 litre tank. We use it to clean flux residues off electronic circuit boards. It does that really well. You can pick one up for £60 or so if you shop around.
