Cragg Vale is part of my regular 40 mile route, its not too bad, harder at the start then gets easier once your past the village. You can certainly feel it though, especially if your not used to hills. I think its harder going the other way from littlebourgh.
 
I never even saw that sign in your first post when I did it.

I must have been head down and giving it the beans ;)

I don't understand the %ages way of referring to gradient. The old 1 in 3 was easy enough. One unit up for three along, unless I've misunderstood that but the % thing I do not get. Can somebody explain it. For instance what would 1 in 3 be in percent?

I'm glad you mentioned that - I don't get it either- is it some new thing? If a hill is 20per cent is that how far up it you'll get before getting off and pushing? What's wrong with just saying 1:5 etc?!
