It must be a 'wired in' thing laying dormant from one's youth, but who else, even in our mature years, is tempted to stop to pick up shiny, freshly fallen conkers even there's little likelyhood of you using them for their 'proper purpose' - ? Obviously it's a man thing, but are you - ?

when our lad were small they collected cokers but weren't interested in playing, we would end up with bags of conkers stuffed in the back of drawer, usually mouldy by the time they were found.
