Continental Top Contact tyres £45 each - worth it?

The title says it all really!

Need some decent touring tyres for the rigid MTB. Will be loaded with panniers etc.

Are these over priced? Or top quality touring tyres?

At 26*1.9 they are not narrow - what's rolling resistance like? Of course this is relative and a tyre this size will never be that fast!

Can't comment on Top Contact but have recently bought some Continental Sport Contact MTB tyres (28 quid a pair on ebay, usu. 35-40) and very pleased with them, fast.

I can't comment about the top contacts either but I've got conti contacts on my commuter and they've been great. When I bought the bike I remember thinking I'd change them for something a bit narrower when they wear out; that was 5,200 miles ago and they show no sign of wear. Dare I say it they've only 1 p'ture in that time and that was when they were newish (a half glass bottle sitting in the middle of the path, I really should of saw that ).

Thanks for the replies. I already have some sport contact 26*1.3 and they are very fast but not really suitable for the hardcore touring I have planned (no tread and too narrow). I've also tried the travel contacts and they really do last forever but a little heavy and slow rolling for long distance riding (100 miles/day).

The top contacts (although quite wide) are (claimed to be) light and relatively fast rolling and have good puncture resistance (according to the conti sales description) - just wanted to hear from someone who has actually used them - they are not cheap so I don't want to waste loads of cash if they're rubbish!

absolutely worth it, no other tyre comes close for commuting IMO.
I do 5000 miles a year on them, I get 2 years from them, and if anything happens, they come with a yearsd guarantee.
