Thanks for the advice, to be honest with the miles I will be doing I am not worried about paying the premium for a diesel.

Image does not matter a huge amount, although if I get a people carrier I will need a captains hat and a pipe! The only reason I was speculating the audi is because they are supposed to be bullet proof and "as they say" 120k is nothing to their engines!

Golf's are just a tad small, Saab 95/93's are and option and will look at the Octavia although I was raised on Skoda jokes so may not be able to handle it!

If you're looking at anything post 2000 in the Seat, Skoda, VW & Audi lines (the main VAG cars) you'll find that they are basically the same under the bonnet & share loads of common components. The petrol 1.8T is a great motor in 150bhp guise, ignore the 'turbo' badge, this is no boy-racer engine but an economical workhorse engine with loads of pull for relaxed driving capable of silly miles.

I'd also suggest the Hyundai Matrix. Comfortable, reliable and cheap, 4 metres long and very spacious inside.. Not quite as versatile as most MPVs (the seats fold and slide, but don't come out) but ours took 2 people and two bikes (inside) to Lake Constance without beating us up.
You'll get a 4 year old one for about £4k, and it'll still have a years warranty from the maker.
