I bought the Hitachi one from Screwfix for £99 a year ago. It's got the highest max torque for any battery drill under £100.

I do quite a lot of DIY and this drill has been a godsend. A lovely piece of kit.

How about a Ryobi One+?

Choose the battery to suit your needs, and the option to add lots of other tools, including stuff for the garden.

I'll have look into that. Thank you.
one + from me for the one + range! (see what i did there... yes, it was truly terrible  )
we used to be makita purists but then i think one of the old makitas had had it or wasn't compatible with the new batteries or what ever and we had one modern makita which is great and batteries and charger for it but just couldn't face 200 plus quid for just a new body (we need 2 or 3 drills working and useable at any one time really) so needed more batteries as well really at about 80 quid a battery they too are jaw dropping

looked long and hard at the ryobi one+ range thinking they were just hobby toys and not up to much but i think we managed to get a drill/driver, 2 batteries and charger for around 100 quid so thought we haven't much to loose and boy were we wrong with our initial skepticism! the one+ is 18v and a few more amps than the 14.4 v makita we were using and so it made big clean holes in huge oak beams that were very solid a lot easier than the makita and with the batteries being li-on compared to our ni-ah makita batteries they would last much longer on one charge, very impressed to say the least!
then we decided it's better to use the batteries than risk them hanging about unused for months on end for half the year (as is the case with us) so we went out and over time invested in a one+ right angle drill and an electric caulk gun i think we might have something else one+ but i just can't remember it off the top of my head! and we are now considering another one + drill/driver body and maybe another battery or two. and i think i might try a one+ cordless angle grinder
great thing is it's all so cheap and you can get bodies for 30 quid or so for a lot of the tools compared to a makita body for 150 quid plus!

we first started our love affair with ryobi one + about 2 or 3 years ago and we're still together and going strong and 'good ole' ' makita is still jealous!

in conclusion we love ryobi; a great product for a great price!

I run 2 Ryobi drills and they get used a lot every day as machine polishers, I cannot remember when I bought them but will certainly replace them with the same.

Great piece of kit.

I'm veering towards Ryobi too. For £150 you can get a drill/driver, a hammer drill, two batteries and a charger. The problem is that I really don't want or need the hammer drill. I have far too many tools already. Anybody want to buy a bare 18v Ryobi hammer drill, without batteries or charger?

Be a little bit careful with the Screwfix and B&Q versions of Makita and DeWalt. I have heard stories that they are slightly different model numbers compared to the proper trade tools and contain lower spec components. I have no idea if that is true or not.

I am another ex-Makita man, switched to Ryobi.
