Hi,

I have a Cotic >X< and recomended them to a collegue who has also got one now. He wants a rack and when the bike was ordered from TheBikeChain in Edinburgh they brushed off the question of how to mount without the bosses for them with 'oh yeh we just use P clips and a so-and-so rack as its got the space for disk brakes.

Well now the bike is here they have has trouble fitting the rack. Has anyone bought a rack and fitted it successfully to their >X< with mudguards as well? The mudguards are getting in the way or the rack apparently.

Comments welcome.

(The >X< was bought through C2W scheme so budget was important and the cdf was not available on the scheme as it was over the £1000 limit and all that we found online were in the sale, which C2W does not allow purchase of - they have to be full price bikes)

Cheers, Dave C

Refuse to accept the bike until they have fitted a rack.

No experience of that particular frame. But having looked it up on the web I see the rear disc is mounted on the seat stay. This makes life very awkward. I've tried various racks sold as disc specific and used 'p' clips. It has always ended up being a bodged job with a rack that doesn't support pannier bags very well. There are seat clapmps with a built in boss that help avoid 'p' clips at the top mounting points.
Now using a Boardman CX where the disc is mounted between the seat and chain stay this avoids having an 'odd' rack and bending mudguard stays around discs and rack.

In the end we both bought Tubus Discos which fit nicely. Instructios say to use the longer squewer supplied but I found it a faf and made bodged spacers and fastened it to the mudguard eyes.

Its great and I have had 3 months of rattle free non adjustment needed commuting.

Hi,
I had a similar problem and splashed out on a Freeload touring rack with the pannier bag adapters, they work quite well and are secure - the only problem I've found is that there doesn't seem to be a way of stopping pannier bags flapping outwards, not really a problem but can be a bit noisy on bumpy ground.

Plus, it's a really easy rack to swap between bikes.
