So guys and gals. Last week I got a split in the weather for once  I got out on my good lady Raquel and had no idea whare to go. (She had other ideas) so we ended up on the road to St. Andrews. It's not far at just over ten miles and the sun was keeping the temp around 15 with a small 7mph western wind.

I have ridden this route a few times and every time I was disgusted at the state of the cycle path that I transfer to half way in. For my road tyres sitting at around 115 psi they do tend to be better on smooth roads and unfortunately the first mile or so of the path is rough and covered in litter, glass and road dust in general.
It really is horrible so I tend to stick to the road for that part.

Anyway I looked up the local authority's that deal with cycle paths in fife and dropped them an email explaining the dangers. Not holding my breath that anything would be done. I received this today

It is coming up to the end of the financial year - whatever budget they may have left, councils try to spend to justify the next year's.

I recently reported a really poorly surfaced cross roads which was one of the main junctions into our little town. Riding it was really dangerous and I never felt confident on the junction. Driving it was like driving off road. Was horrible. Reported it on the BTC reporting system and it has since been fixed ^_^

I've managed to get some railings removed on a blind spot (well I like to think it was me), and my current thing is trying to get them to sweep a bit of cycle path. They did react and twice have swept it since logging it as a problem but failed to do the bit I had said was a problem:banghead:.

Reported a similar problem with a cycle path in my area to the correct office a couple of times and they have never had it swept,
Poor show mate. Although it looks like a lot of guys have had a good result so far. Have you tried getting your mates involved as well?

I doubt it would do much good, the hedgerow got cut this week and they just left all the debris including bits of branches on the path, good job it was raining and windy as it helped clear it a bit.

Lancashire County Council are spending money on replacing not too old bus shelters with new ones, plus chrome type bus stop signs as well as raising the pavements by a few inches. Meanwhile the cycle lanes and roads in general are a disgrace! My point is that they wasting money on "fancy things" instead of spending it on things that make roads safer for all(including cyclists)!

I've had the Rochdale Road/Heywood Street junction improved by closing off a short-cutters' side road in Bury, pedestrian crossing lights re-timed on Rochdale Road, new restriction signs fitted at the end of our street and I've got Lancashire to agree to look at double yellows also at the end of our street where residents park on the pavement and obscure the view up the road. All it takes is a couple of letters or phone calls; they key is in finding the right person at the council and when they realise you're talking sense they will usually agree to change something.
