Wot's the 3T 19 all about?
The 'Headcode'.
Each service has it's own special code, a bit like a flight number. In the old days (well, pre 1976), trains carried these or variations of it so that the signalman knew what was passing him.
The 'headcode boxes' were designed into the front of trains and, although plated up in later years, it was/is pretty obvious on certain types to as where the box was/is.
What you see is a vinyl roller blind (accesable from a variety of places depending on the type) behind a glass window or door.
A bit like a bus destination blind really.
