In 2005, many things were happening, whilst I was on holiday in Italy in March/April of that year, the Pope died and a new one was elected, soon after that, I was visiting London a lot as the last of the Southern Region slam door trains were in their final year of operation, as were the old Routemaster buses, but I went to drive steam locos during July in Poland. We all celebrated quietly as we heard that London won the bid to host the 2012 'Lympics on the 6th of that month, but, only a day after that, with me still in Poland and with sod all acess to English language media, this happened. It took me a few days to fully hear what had happened. I potentially had had a lucky escape, although I don't think I would have been where the bombings happened. You never know though:

I may have forgotten at the time to post something for 9/11, but somehow, I don't think I really need to.
