Coverless duvets and washing in the machine.....question!

I am only thinking of swapping to coverless duvet (thanks to @Mo ).
My washing machine has a 8 Kg capacity.
Google tells me i need at least 8-10 km so mine is borderline.
I won't get them if it means going to the launderette every 2 weeks.
So........anyone have coverless and if so does anyone manage with an 8 Kg machine?

We have a super dooper 'big load' machine and you've still got to be careful with a soaked duvet, it's mainly the weight being un-balanced. Our machine will refuse to spin if it detects the load is too 'heavy'.

I suppose it all depends upon how much moisture the duvet holds, you may be OK.

The only merit I can see in a Coverless Duvet, its it eliminates the need to wrangle a duvet cover on and off it, which is a job i relish using the inside out flip technique, but I know some find it (literally) a pain, especially in advancing years.

It does however throw different challenges in the washing & drying department

My duvet hates me !! It even gives me the evil eye.
I'm 79 and although I the change cover virtually every week I find it a real pain.

I have just bought a Night Lark coverless duvet (single 4.5 tog) from Fine Bedding. If you scroll down to "Care guide" it tells you which duvets fit in a 7kg washing machine. It seems that the King Size 10.5 tog duvets need to be washed in a 10kg machine.

is the drying of it not going to be a challenge in our damp weather?
@Dave7 you might need 2, one to use while the other one dries.
Have you got the space for a wide clothes airer?
I think even if you tumble dry this duvet, there will be a bit of residual dampness that needs to be aired out before use.

Switched to cover less duvets around years ago. I hated changing duvet covers. Our washing machine isnt big enough to wash a double so we switched to two singles. Best decision we ever made and thankfully they’ve always dried before bedtime.

Better half has been using a Silentnight cooling blanket all summer, which I thought might be same as these cover less duvets. She loves it, I stick to simply using a duvet cover in this heatwave.

I don't know if anyone has said yet, but you might be ok if you select a delicate cycle with no spin? I think it just turns slowly and drains. But then of course you'd need somewhere to hang it. Also bear in mind that a laundrette cycle will be about £7, and another £7 odd for tumble dry. If your machine is old, you could just get on and do it until (if) it breaks, and then buy a larger one. But if it's not an old machine then that's an expensive upgrade for just a duvet. Maybe they do alternative opening covers for this purpose?

All the adverts and reviews say they are amazingly quick drying.
@Mo1959 has one and swears by it.
But no, I dont have room for a clothes airer.

Do you use clothes pegs to hold the duvet in place once you have the top corners in? Makes life easier

But I think it is more down to impatience than technique. 😄

It is definitely technique, and you need a decent "wingspan" especially for a kingsize.
I don't mind admitting that I'm absolutely awesome at it, but I'm not travelling around the country changing people's duvets covers for them.
