Crank / bottom bracket tools

Are tools for the bottom bracket universal eg same for mountain bikes , hybrids,,racers

going to have a go at a build , need to order some tools

There are about 10 bottom bracket "standards" these days, sorry!

Short answer: No. Long answer:

Off the top of my head:

Cup and cone (the tools for these are big, heavy and not even standard in pin spacing or lockring dogs!)

Shimano cartridge unit (smallish splined tool)

Royce

Phil Wood

Klein

Shimano HT2 (one tool does it all if you get the right one BUT Shimano changed the spline size at some point so you often need an adaptor)

BB30/PF30 - need a headset press and other special tools

BB86 (goodness knows)
