Crank thread sticking out beyond pedal - catching on shoe

Is that an axle with the threads on the end of the axle and not internal. Typical SR Apex style

The first image looks exactly like the (my) SR Apex BB axle end, which takes a nut not a bolt to pull the crank (not in bling gold though, thank goodness) onto the square taper. And the crankset in the OP's second image looks SR Apex to me, as does the left hand crank in the first image. The 'axle bolt' end should be slightly recessed from the outside face of the crank.

I will look on the bike for numbers on or near the crank and report back.

Look on the cranks (inside) and on the BB (left hand side) for script, not on the bike.
