Short legs, short cranks but higher cadences, and possibly a smaller chain ring or a range lower on the rear end. Shorter cranks and higher cadences should relive the strain on ankle hip and knee joints. I have always tried not to overlift my knees ie so at the top of the stroke my knees/thighs are not parallel to the ground. which means you knee joints are not at forming a 90 degree angle. Think about the action of your quads applying power via your ligaments down your legs! (ever tried to pull a wire tight with a weight in the middle of it, all the force is in the wrong direction) As previous post suggests dangle your legs so you can establish the natural position for your toes at the bottom of the stroke a little bit left in extension of your leg, so you can start to pull from the bottom of the stroke. Again so your ligaments are not over stretched.
